Become a FRIENDS Volunteer

Volunteers are very important to FRIENDS. Their commitment to our mission, as well as their hours of hard work, allow us to preserve our philosophy, to grow our programs and to increase public awareness.

Volunteering can be fun and rewarding, no matter how you choose to get involved. Whether it is teaching a class, assisting with evening activities, sharing skills and talents, helping with the fundraiser activities or any time spent volunteering is appreciated.

Here are some ways you can get involved:

Social Programs:

Through various activities and environments FRIENDS enables adults with developmental disabilities 18 years or older (with the exception of FRIENDS Night Out), to acquire skills such as: socialization, appropriate behavior, independence and choice.  FRIENDS has a number of programs which achieve these goals:

Women’s Night Out: 2nd Thursday of Every Month

Men’s Night Out: 2nd Thursday of Every Month

FRIENDS Night Out: 4th Thursday of Every Month

Day Program:

Enrolled participants arrive at the FRIENDS facility anticipating an active day consisting of scheduled recreational, educational or cultural activities; water aerobics, gymnastics, weight training, arts and dance classes and guided open space tours to name a few. Some of the activities are modified to accommodate the population’s needs and we are out in the fresh air as often as possible.

Day Program Schedule: 10:00am – 3:00pm with one activity in the morning between 10am – 12 pm and one in the afternoon between 1pm – 3pm.

Fundraiser Events:

Volunteers are needed to chair the events, serve on the event(s) committee which actually coordinate the event, and assist the day of the event. Two annual events one in May and one in October.

Whether you give an hour a week or many hours for an event, your support is needed and appreciated!
