🌄 The Better Everyday Mountain Challenge
Supporting FRIENDS of Broomfield and the I/DD Community
My name is James Anderson, and I run Better Everyday LLC, a personal training business dedicated to helping kids and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) become stronger, healthier, more confident, and more independent. My mission is simple: help people grow—physically, emotionally, and mentally—one better day at a time.
For the past several years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with FRIENDS of Broomfield, an incredible nonprofit that empowers individuals with developmental disabilities through community, connection, and meaningful activities. Twice a week, I teach adaptive fitness classes for their participants, and these sessions have become some of the most meaningful and joyful parts of my entire career.
FRIENDS provides opportunities that many families simply could not find anywhere else. But like many disability-support organizations across the country, they are facing potential funding challenges. Cuts in government support could threaten their ability to continue programs—including the fitness classes I teach that so many participants look forward to every week.
That’s why I’m launching the Better Everyday Mountain Challenge.
🌟 What Is the Challenge?
I will be hiking Mount Quandary—a classic Colorado 14er—while wearing a weighted vest.
The amount of weight I carry will be determined by how much we raise:
The more support we gather, the heavier the vest—and the bigger the impact we can make for FRIENDS of Broomfield.Â
🎒 Why a Weighted Vest? The Symbolism
Every day, the individuals I work with carry weights that most people never see—challenges with mobility, coordination, communication, social connection, and navigating a world that isn’t always built with them in mind. But what has always inspired me is this: No matter the weight they carry, they show up. They try. They smile. They grow. They choose their own version of “better everyday.”
The weighted vest represents the unseen loads many in the I/DD community face.
The mountain represents the uphill battles—and the victories—that come from perseverance, support, and community.
And this challenge represents my commitment to carry a little extra weight for them, just as they continue teaching me what courage, resilience, and determination truly look like.
